Lawsuit Against Hospital That Told Wrong Patients They Had HIV

Lili Hutchison, a long-time worker at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, claimed that she had been discriminated against and treated poorly at her workplace after she blew the whistle on life-threatening botched up reports by the hospital’s pathology lab. Hutchison alleged that the lab told the wrong patients that they had HIV even though they didn’t – and told them they didn’t have Hepatitis C when they did.

Brooklyn resident Amanda Velasquez, now 27 and a married mother of two, went blind after doctors at Woodhull Medical Center misdiagnosed her glaucoma. She filed a medical malpractice lawsuit at Brooklyn Supreme Court. The jury awarded her $15 million for all that she had suffered.

The medical malpractice lawsuit alleged that surgeons George Alexander Jones and Daniel Spitzer committed medical malpractice that resulted in Jones’ botched spinal surgery. The plaintiffs held the surgeons responsible for a series of medical failures that caused Jones a lifetime of despair and handicap. 

Dental Patient Awarded $9.8 Million for a Botched Tooth Extraction

In 2012, the New York Supreme Court ordered an NYC dentist to pay his former patient Harold Hagins $9.8 million for a wisdom tooth extraction gone wrong. While dentist William Moody’s temper had brought him Internet fame, the verdict brought him another round of fame to claim – again for the wrong reasons.

Kragulj, who has previously performed in Philadelphia and New York, claimed in her $10 million lawsuit that she now faces premature aging due to the botched procedure.

Alleged Wrongful Death of Guitarist Frey Lawsuit

Glenn Frey’s widow filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Mount Sinai Hospital in 2018, claiming unspecified damages for her husband’s death. Cindy Frey alleged in her lawsuit that the hospital failed to treat her husband correctly before he died in Jan. 2016 at the age of 67. Frey was the former co-lead singer and guitarist for the Eagles and had ulcerative colitis, for which he was being treated at the hospital. His widow claims that his condition was not diagnosed or treated correctly, and no warning was given of the side effects of treatment either.
