When Stephanie Debes and her twin sister, Amanda, were born prematurely, they had no idea that the life of one of them would be eons away from the other despite them being twins. The family won a $100 million medical malpractice lawsuit in 2012 against the hospital where the twins were born. Stephanie was a teenager at the time the court announced the verdict.

SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NYC, came under fire when two top transplant surgeons blew the whistle on medical malpractice, lack of patient care, and understaffing at the hospital's cardiothoracic surgery department and cardiothoracic intensive care units and were subsequently fired.

Famed for giving lip injections to Snooki from the Real Housewives of Jersey Shore, plastic surgeon Dr. Ramtin Kassir Rice faces a lawsuit for a botched nose job. Arevik Khurdayan, 34, went to the doctor to fix her deviated septum. The surgeon and his staff convinced her to undergo a nose job that left her with even more problems.

Stacey Galette, 30, was awarded $62 million in compensation after a seemingly routine surgery caused her to lose both her legs and most of her hearing. The single mother of one from Brooklyn said that even though she had to wait a while, she was just happy that justice was served to compensate her for her amputations and the consequent suffering.

A Lincoln Hospital patient was left paralyzed after having to wait two hours in the ER before receiving treatment. In Sep. 2014, Anthony Medlin was brought into the hospital by ambulance and was wrongfully declared low risk by the staff. His condition was labeled as a minor facial injury, but it was far more severe in reality. 

Medlin was examined by a physician after his two-hour wait and was immediately taken for surgery. But by the time the surgery was done, he was irreversibly paralyzed from the waist down.
