This means that the birth rate was 12.5 per 1,000 people. The fertility rate for the same year was 62.9 per 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 44.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over 600 women die every year due to pregnancy or delivery complications in the United States. In 2013, an estimated 18.5 mothers died for every 100,000 births, which is a total of nearly 800 deaths.

Sharp fall in malpractice awards against anesthesiologists

New York residents may be aware that the amount of damages associated with medical malpractice cases involving anesthesiologists can sometimes be significant. When anesthesia is not administered correctly, patients can be left in the nightmare situation of being aware and able to feel pain yet not capable of moving or alerting operating room staff of their situation. Researchers with the National Practitioner Data Bank studied malpractice lawsuits involving anesthesiologists between 2005 and 2013, and they found that the compensation paid in these cases fell significantly during this period.

Plastic surgery procedure gone wrong leads to homicide

New York Police Department officials think that a physician of questionable caliber fled to England after the death of a patient on May 30. A 34-year-old BET employee from Maryland traveled to Queens for silicone injections to her backside, but a homicide occurred as the cause of death was systemic silicone emboli because of the butt injections.
