Failed breast cancer diagnosis can lead to malpractice claim

Many people in New York City and beyond know someone who has been diagnosed with some form of cancer. Most of us live in fear of a cancer diagnosis. However, we assume that medical professionals will detect cancer in its earliest stages. With the right treatment, patients can go on to live a full life.

Unfortunately, a delayed cancer diagnosis can be quite serious and can lead to further complications. When a person's cancer isn't diagnosed early enough, their chances of survival often shrink.

A recent study shows that diagnostic errors are the most likely cause of medical malpractice suits against radiologists. According to researchers, breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer that doctors miss.

This information is disturbing because even if patients are being cautious about their health, medical professionals may miss something.

Dealing with a health condition can be frightening. After all, a person's health is critically important. Without one's health, it is difficult to lead a normal life. People look to physicians and other medical professionals to properly diagnose and treat them.

When a medical professional is found to be negligent, patients and their families may pursue legal action through a medical malpractice lawsuit. Through a successful lawsuit, people can obtain compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

Doctors and nurses have important jobs to do. While most people receive proper treatment and care, medical mistakes are made frequently. When the misconduct of a doctor or nurse causes further complications, they should be held responsible.
